I was just inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Natasha, of Paper Crowns, to spice up my blog with a new series entitled "Top 5's". Top 5's is all about my favorite things, my top five favorite things to be exact. I am an obsessive list maker and have always loved those 100 question surveys on myspace (who didn't?!). So I've decided to take Natasha's lead and add a regular series, for my readers to look forward to each week.If you've been around for a while, you know that I am completely obsessed with film and fashion. So what better way to share with you my very favorites/obsessions?!
Starting off this series will be my all time favorite actors. When I say "favorites", I actually mean... I hear their names and I have to give my two cents, I will always go see their movies during opening week even if they do crash and burn at the box office and have terrible reviews, and, I've most likely know all about their life and pride myself on getting through their entire wikipedia page.

Andrew Garfield is fairly new on the Hollywood scene. A year ago, you probably only knew him as, "the Brit that's going to be the new Spider-Man." but long before the idea of taking part in rebooting the series had ever crossed his mind, Andrew gave us a variety of brilliantly diverse characters. Andrew is like a chamelion, he's proved that he can do comedy (Dr. Parnassus), historical drama (The Other Boleyn Girl), science fiction drama (Never Let Me Go), the modern drama of the rise of Mark Zuckerberg and the legacy of Facebook in The Social Network.
Right around the time The Amazing Spider-Man came out, I become seriously obsessed with listening to him talk about what he wanted for the character that he grew up being a huge fanatic of, and what it meant to him to actually be able to embody one of his all time favorite characters. I just could not get enough of hearing him talk about how grateful he is, so you can understand that I was almost moved to tears when I finally saw him living his childhood dream on screen. So beautiful.
I don't even know where to start with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He proved he could hold his own in 10 Things I Hate About You, I fell in love with him in 500 Days of Summer, he made my heart break in Hesher, I wanted to be him in Inception, and he completely caught me off guard in 50/50. I'm a crazy fanatic of Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy so the fact that he was in The Dark Knight Rises just had me elated, it was perfection. At this point, whenever I see him working on a new project I get excited because it's like he knows what I like! (Haha.. promise I'm not crazy) If I were an actor in Hollywood, I would be after all of the same projects that he works on, he's just got incredible depth and I love that he started a production company just to work with people like you and i (that aren't Hollywood artists) to create music/film/art that the world would otherwise never see. Cannot wait to see Looper, as the writer/director wrote the film with him in mind. I love that he is such a fan of every project he does, he doesn't have to pretend to be excited about his work because he loves every film he's worked on.
This one has taken me ages to come to terms with. Everyone loves Robert Downey Jr., no? For the longest time I couldn't stand him. I used to say his characters always have the same personality, and he seems full of himself and doesn't really ever branch out, but over the past few years I've really grown to love him. (Did I just say that?!)
I think I changed my mind about him around the time when Tropic Thunder came out. If you've never seen Tropic Thunder, prepare yourself for over the top, in every sense of what you would expect from him. I wasn't crazy about his Sherlock Holmes because I felt that it was all wrong, but I loosened up and came to the realization that they meant for it be a deviation from what we're used to seeing. I now see Robert Downey Jr. as endearing, in that I love his one man show but I know that he can't really do Drama, because when he does, he's still that same 'know-it-all' character. So he is number 2 on my list of favorites because he's become something of a past-time for me. Some of my favorites are Kiss Kiss, Bang, Bang, Zodiac, Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes and The Avengers (cannot get enough of these superhero movies!)
I know you must be wondering how I can have Heath Ledger as my all-time favorite actor, as he will never make another film. I still remember the night I sat down at my computer, opened my browsers home page and was struck with the news that Heath had died. I've never lost anyone close to me so I cannot imagine what that must feel like, but I confess to being one of those crazy fans that felt like they knew him. He has always been my favorite actor and I couldn't help but feel sadness for the family he left behind and the fact that the world would never see him in a new film. In a way, he is immortal in my mind, and I think this is due to the fact that I didn't know him, I never met him, he lived in my television, in a way. So whenever I think back on all that he left behind and the legacy that is his body of work, I try to remember that he saved his best work for last.
Some of my all time favorite film's of Heath's are, A Knight's Tale, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Four Feathers, Casanova, The Dark Knight, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Who are your top 5 favorite actors? Am I missing out on any of my top 5's best movies? Let me know in the comments.

Absolutely LOVE this post! Totally agree with your comments about Heath!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that he's not going to be in any more movies!
Oh and I also agree with everything else you've written here. Though I still haven't seen the Social Network or the new Spider Man film yet! Must get on to that!
Heath Ledger was adorable in 10 Things I Hate About You. Couldn't get enough of that movie. :) Loved this post! I need to recreate something like it.

AyeJay - You HAVE to see the Social Network, it is such a great look into the 'Facebook phenomenon' and the soundtrack really makes the film unlike anything you've ever seen, definitely recommend it!
ReplyDeleteTami - I couldn't agree more, I have such a soft spot for Heath's character in 10 Things, he was so young! Thanks for following and I will definitely check out your blog. =)
This is a great post! I love Robert Downey Jr. and wasn't converted until I saw Avengers! He is very endearing, there's just something about him that is totally charming. As for Heath Ledger, ahh, I think everyone loves Heath :) x
